In the cardiopulmonary resuscitation course, you will learn the most important life-saving measures for resuscitation and how to apply them in different situations involving adults and children. The course is usually offered by your own clinic and is mandatory at least every two years.
At the beginning of your surgical career, a suturing course/class is essential for learning the most important suturing and knot techniques correctly. Various providers offer such courses, and most clinics offer them in-house. We strongly advise you to attend such a course as early as possible so that you can shine in the operating room.
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is a training concept that defines standardized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for the early in-hospital initial care of seriously injured (polytrauma) patients in the emergency room. It was developed in the 1970s by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and is now taught and applied in a number of countries, including Switzerland.
The course is therefore recommended before a rotation to the emergency room. The ATLS course is offered in Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano, Zurich, and St. Gallen. A refresher course is mandatory every four years to maintain the validity of the certificate.
You can find the upcoming ATLS student and refresher courses in our calendar. Further information is available on the ATLS Switzerland website.
The “Sonography” skills program is organized by the organization SGUM. It regulates matters relating to ultrasound examinations that are relevant to physicians working in sonography in their practical work and for their patients. Ultrasound examinations include a comprehensive clinical assessment, a clear indication, and evaluation of the findings. Depending on the module, the training is divided into courses in a specified sequence, as well as in supervised and independent examinations. An exam/final evaluation concludes the program.
We recommend the basic course in sonography, including basic emergency sonography, which is particularly useful in the emergency room.
You can find the upcoming basic courses and advanced courses in our calendar. Further information is available on the SGUM website.
